第24章 太阳系内八大行星之一水星(2 / 2)

水星是表面温差最大的行星:由于水星大气层极为稀薄,无法有效保存热量,加上离太阳很近,所以水星表面昼夜温差极大。朝向太阳的一面受到太阳的炙烤,赤道地区温度可达430℃;背向太阳的一面则可降至-170℃,温差高达600℃,为太阳系之最。

水星是最少人类探测器造访的行星:水星和地球的绝对距离并不遥远,但以霍曼转移方式(通过转移航天器轨道,充分借助星体引力产生的能量,以节省燃料)发射水星探测器,却比发射冥王星探测器还难,更不要说环绕水星了。不过人类还是发射了三次水星探测器,第一次通过与水星的三次相会,拍摄了几千张照片;第二次在环绕探测完成之后以撞击水星的方式结束了使命。

通过近前探测,人类了解到,水星的外貌酷似月球,有许多大小不一的环形山,还有辐射纹、平原、裂谷、盆地等地形。

水星的表面表现出巨大的急斜面,有些达到几百千米长,三千米高。有些横处于环形山的外环处,而另一些急斜面的面貌表明他们是受压缩而形成的。

水星上最大的地貌特征之一是Caloris盆地,直径约为1300千米,人们认为它与月球上最大的盆地Maria相似。如同月球的盆地,Caloris盆地很有可能形成于太阳系早期的大碰撞中,那次碰撞大概同时造成了星球另一面正对盆地处奇特的地形。

除了布满陨石坑的地形,水星也有相对平坦的平原,有些也许是古代火山运动的结果,但另一些大概是陨石所形成的喷出物沉积的结果。

令人惊讶的是,水星北极点的雷达扫描显示出在一些陨石坑的被完好保护的隐蔽处存在冰的迹象。

第三次探测将通过研究水星的内部结构和磁场产生的特点,确定水星的核心是固体还是液体,并探究水星的起源与演变历程,从而帮助人类更好地了解太阳系的整体演化历史。

人类,就是这样在一步步的探索中前进和发展起来的。
