张晓辰他们此次直奔昆仑山,但是路途虽不是很远却不是十分的近,他仔细观察着可能有唐小雨的地方。

昆仑山脉与塔里木盆地和柴达木盆地间均以深大断裂相隔。昆仑山地区以前震旦系为基底;古生代时为强烈下沉的海域并伴有火山活动,古生代末期经华力西运动褶皱上升,构成昆仑中轴和山脉的中脊;中生代产生拗陷,经燕山运动构成主脊两侧4000米以上的山体。昆仑山脉与构成分隔中国南部与北部的纬向山脉。

昆仑山脉的新构造运动极其强烈,晚第三纪以来上升大约4000~5000米;叶尔羌拗陷中的砾石层厚度2500余米,河谷高阶地上则分布有第四纪火山凝灰岩和火山角砾岩;克里雅河与安迪尔河的上游均保存有中更新世玄武岩流与火山口,1951年在于田县境昆仑山中的卡尔达西火山群的一号火山曾爆发,并伴有现代火山泥石流。

东部昆仑山第四纪以来上升了2800余米,其相关沉积物在柴达木盆地中的埋藏深度达2800米。昆仑山的新构造运动具间歇性,叶尔羌河、喀拉喀什河、尼雅河均形成4~5级阶地;各河出山口形成4~5级叠置的洪积扇。

该山脉几乎完全不受印度洋和太平洋季风的气候影响。相反,其却处于大陆气团的持续影响之下,引起年气温和日气温的巨大波动。山系中段最干燥,而西部和东部的气候多少缓和一些。

该山最干燥的地区,年降水量在山麓不足50毫米,在高海拔区约为102~127毫米;在帕米尔和西藏诸山附近,年降水量增加到457毫米(18寸)。在山(与北部平原交界的山)的低层,7月平均气温是25~28℃,在1月不低于-9℃;然而在山的上部和西藏边界,7月平均温度低于10℃,在冬季则常降至-35℃或更低。

昆仑山北坡属暖温带塔里木荒漠和柴达木荒漠,降水量小;随着海拔的增高,暖温带荒漠过渡为高山荒漠,降水量随之增加。雪线在海拔5600~5900米,雪线以上为终年不化的冰川,冰川面积达到3000平方公里以上,是中国的大冰川区之一。冰川融水是中国几条主要大河的源头,包括长江、黄河、澜沧江(湄公河)、怒江(萨尔温江)和塔里木河。[8]

昆仑山是中亚仅有内流水系地区的一个组成部分。主要与北面的塔里木盆地和柴达木盆地及南面的西藏高原有关。只有黄河与长江源头所在的山系最东支脉有注入海洋的水系。

该山有两个主要河网︰发源于喀喇昆仑山脉和藏北的大河,流水切割峡谷,穿越整个昆仑山链而去,还有疏泄外围山坡流水的小河。主要河流形成漫长曲折的河谷;有几条河流给昆仑山北缘绿洲供应灌溉用水。

虽然昆仑山河流接纳一些雨水,但其主要由积雪和冰川供水。流量遂因季而异;60%~80%的流量出现于夏季月份,这时冰雪的强烈融化与最大降水结合在一起。雪和冰川的强烈蒸发导致浅盐湖的形成。

该山尽管海拔很高,却由于气候极端干燥而几乎没有冰川作用;外表积雪只存在于最高山峰的深隙之中。冰川活动的主要中心出现在海拔约接近7010米之处。所有冰川都以其非同寻常的陡峭和缺乏融水而引人注目。
